Mark your calendars for another Yankee Springs Winter Challenge on January 2, 2016. We’ll see what kind of winter weather we get this time! We’ll have the same races again this year, 10k, 25k, 50k, and 50 mile.

Race Schedule: Note that the start times are slightly different from last year’s.
50 mile start: 6:00 am
50k start: 8:00 am
10k start: 8:30 am
25k start: 9:00 am
Cut-off time: 8:00 pm
Packet pickup will be from 5:00 am to the start of each race in the lodge at the Long Lake Outdoor Center.
Parking will be at the Long Lake Outdoor Center in the main lot and in the event field. Auxiliary parking will be available just East of the Outdoor Center at the Winter Sports Parking Area. As always we recommend carpooling to make the best use of limited parking.
The course: The courses for the Winter Challenge consist of a 10k loop and a 25k loop of mostly single track trail. 50k runners do the 25k loop twice. 50 mile runners start by running out to the first aid station and back and then do the 25k loop three times. Click here for more information and course maps.
Aid Stations: The aid stations will be between 1.5 and 4.5 miles apart. There will be two on the 10k course, four on the 25k course, and one at the start/finish. They will serve water, Gatorade, a variety of sweet and salty snacks, and fruit. The second and fourth aid stations on the 25k course will also serve soup, sandwiches, and potatoes. We will not be providing gels at the aid stations, so if you use gels, we recommend you bring your own favorite flavor. There will be a place for drop bags at the start/finish.
Lodging: We recommend staying in one of the rustic cabins or bunk houses at the start/finish area. The cabins and bunk houses are rustic but well-maintained and do have heat. (The bath house is not open during the winter, but there are vault toilets.) You can rent a single bunk or rent a cabin with 4 or 5 beds. We will be taking care of renting out the cabins for this race, so sign up for lodging on the online registration.
Post-race food: Back by popular demand, we will have chili (meat and vegetarian) for all participants in the lodge.
Going with the tradition of this race, all finishers will receive a snow globe.
There will also be awards for top 3 overall male and female, awards for male and female masters, and age group awards.
